The Thimphu festival takes place on the 10th day of the 8th month of the Bhutanese Lunar calendar. Before the festival begins, monks perform prayer and ritual ceremonies inside the dzong to invoke the deities. The highlight of the festival is the mask dances depicting the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, performed by monks. These vibrant dances are a significant aspect of Bhutanese Buddhist culture and honor Guru Rinpoche. The festival is also a time for Bhutanese people to wear new clothes, enjoy drinks, and celebrate. The Thimphu festival is a favorite among tourists and attracts thousands of local and international visitors.
